In Cochabamba there are newly created neighborhoods-communities that form urban misery belts with Quechua indigenous populations from all over the country who have migrated to the city in search of a better future. They lack drinking water, there is no sewerage and the use of communal latrines is the most frequent. Located in peripheral hills where there is no vegetation, on unstable lands they build precarious houses exposed in times of rain to massive landslides. Its community and organizational structure is emerging and has many deficiencies from a “save yourself who can” position. Children remain alone most of their time, forming criminal gang groups, with an early and irresponsible exercise of sexuality that increases the number of abortions and abandoned babies.<\/p>\n
The disabled population living in this context of poverty is therefore extremely vulnerable. SOY CAPAZ, is the continuity of the project called “Prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and early rehabilitation of child disability through networking for the protection and inclusion of children with disabilities” that has been carried out by the San Lucas Foundation since 2013 to date (4 years duration) in areas of extreme poverty in the department of Cochabamba.
