Justification<\/h2>\n

In January, February, and March of 2023, through participatory diagnostics, 8 communities identified the “Violation of the right to access quality drinking water and participation” as the central problem. This issue is also addressed in the Aguilares Strategic Plan 2019-2028.<\/p>\n

Specific Objective:<\/strong> Modernize the operation of 4 drinking water systems with a gender and environmental sustainability focus to contribute to the human right to health: access to quality water and sanitation, and participation in local public policy for 3,208 people (1,625 women, 1,583 men) in the municipality of Aguilares, El Salvador.<\/p>\n

    Construction of two water wells.<\/li>\n
  • Water quality analysis and control.<\/li>\n
  • Inauguration of the four drinking water systems.<\/li>\n
  • Establishment of four water and sanitation committees with at least 50% women in decision-making bodies.<\/li>\n
  • Development of a campaign promoting hygienic habits, proper water use, and environmental management aimed at at least 100 girls and 100 boys from one educational center in Aguilares.<\/li>\n
  • Reforestation of one hectare of land with forest trees of native species.<\/li>\n
  • Training for 400 people in gender equity, human rights, citizen participation, proper water use, environmental hygiene, and water harvesting.<\/li>\n
  • Training for 12 women who are part of the water and sanitation committees in self-esteem, women’s rights, leadership, and empowerment.<\/li>\n
  • Presentation of a socioeconomic and aquifer protection proposal to the municipal government.<\/li>\n
  • Design and approval of a municipal public policy for drinking water management in Aguilares.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
