Background Information<\/h2>\n

The main problem faced by La 72 is the violation of human rights of people in transit, refugees, and community defenders in Tenosique (Tabasco, Mexico). The defense of human rights for people in transit and those who defend them is one of the most neglected challenges in public policies in Latin America.<\/p>\n

Some of the causes that exacerbate this problem include: the intensification of migration policies; violence and insecurity; the invisibility of the issue and the lack of political will from state and municipal authorities to protect, respect, and guarantee human rights; the lack of guarantees from authorities for human rights defenders to carry out their work; and the local population’s rejection of the migrant population. The high levels of xenophobia present in Tenosique make it difficult to work together to defend these human rights.<\/p>\n

Overall Goal:<\/strong>To defend and promote human rights and contribute to the recognition and respect of migrants in transit and refugees in Tenosique, Tabasco, by providing them with adequate and comprehensive care: humanitarian assistance, psychosocial support, and legal accompaniment.<\/p>\n
