Virtual meeting on Regenerative and Responsible Tourism.

Last Friday, October 22, we held a virtual meeting to share theory and experiences related to Responsible and Regenerative Tourism. Members of TAU, CORDES, the Aguilares Tourism Development Committee (COMITURA) and Marina Abad, professor of Tourism at the University of Deusto participated in the meeting.

Marina Abad shared the complete presentation “(Re) generative tourism: another tourism is possible” that served to clarify concepts and argue about the importance of regenerative tourism as a sector of social transformation. She also shared some concrete examples and experiences on community, sustainable and regenerative tourism. Some examples shown were, on Ecotourism: https://www.ecotumismo.org/sobre-nosotros/; Tourism and Governance Proturga: https://proturga.org/; collaborative project: ITINERIS COMA: http://www.itineriscoma.org/: promotion of local local consumption: https://www.detourporguanajuato.com/consumelocal//: Environmental education and tourism: https://plasticslemag.es/ Fishing-for-garbage-in-the-canals-of-amsterdam /

Later we had a wide space to share the experiences, difficulties and challenges that COMITURA and CORDES are experiencing in promoting responsible and community tourism in Aguilares. A great effort is being made in the recovery of the local cultural identity with the rescue of the Mayan ball game or investment in tourist infrastructures (Ball game court, Plaza de la Toma …) that allow recovering spaces for the enjoyment of the Aguilarenses themselves. We also share the difficulties generated by the pandemic; with the stoppage of cultural art festivals, the absence of demand to travel the two tourist routes created and, therefore, the decrease in the work of the tourist guides trained, etc.

This activity is one of those that we are developing due to the existing collaboration between TAU, CORDES and the University of Deusto, within the framework of the project “Fostering Responsible and Sustainable Tourism with equitable and inclusive participation in the Aguilares municipality (El Salvador)” funded by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

Valoramos de forma positiva este encuentro que nos ha permitido compartir conocimientos y experiencias sobre turismo regenerativo, estrechar lazos y reforzar la motivación para la cooperación entre todos los agentes implicados en este interesante proyecto.
