Background information

A major problem for the local youth is the lack of opportunities for their economic participation, where this problem is more serious for young women and especially in rural areas. This project aims to bolster the organizational, participation, and economic capabilities for rural youth in the municipalities of Aguilares, El Paisnal and San Pablo Tacachico who are vulnerable to Covid-19 infection.

Goals

Overall goal: Contributing to the socioeconomic development of youth in the municipalities of Aguilares, El Paisnal and San Pablo Tacachico who are vulnerable to Covid-19 infection, by enhancing their organizational, participation and economic capabilities, through the equitable participation of the local youth and the efficient use of the resources that are available in the municipalities.

Specific goal: Bolstering the organizational, participation and economic capabilities of rural youth in the municipalities of Aguilares, El Paisnal and San Pablo Tacachico who are vulnerable to Covid-19 infection,  with the equitable participation of the local youth and efficient use of the resources that are available in the municipalities, so that they can be active players in their own development.

Activities:

  • Holding 48 training sessions with 200 young people on gender / masculinity issues, human rights, the environment, citizen participation, youth and childhood laws, sexual and reproductive health.

  • Forming 13 community youth committees.

  • Celebrating “Youth Day” in Aguilares, El Paisnal and San Pablo Tacachico.

  • Bolstering 18 artistic, cultural and sports groups.

  • Implementing 30 agricultural economic initiatives (30 livestock banks) with an agroecological focus and the participation of 15 young women and 15 young men.

  • Organizing17 training sessions on the symptoms, transmission and preventive measures for the COVID-19 disease and designing an infection prevention plan.
