Drinking water supply system in the communities Las Pampas Line and Canton Las Pampas of the Municipality of Aguilares

Access to drinking water in El Salvador is limited, sharpening even more when talking about water quality. The population of Aguilares does not escape this problem, so we have that 60% of the population lacks drinking water and of those who have it, 80% receive poor quality water; in addition to receiving water only for a period of 1 to 2 hours per day. This forces the population to make use of contaminated water sources such as artesian wells, rivers, nearby springs or private water distributors, among others, who have no control over the quality of the water. To this we add that families dedicate part of their income to buy water, for consumption and household chores, at high prices ($ 1 per 0.23 m3), which greatly affects their family economy. Also, the use and consumption of poor quality water causes health problems, especially that of boys and girls who are the most vulnerable.
