Justification

This project responds to demands identified during the workshop held on February 14–15, 2024. Its aim is to promote food sovereignty and sustainable local economic development with gender equity and environmental governance in 10 Quechua rural communities in the municipality of Ocurí through strategies focusing on: Environmental resilience in the face of the climate crisis. Improving production, processing, and fair and responsible marketing of beekeeping and bakery products. Strengthening local governance.

Objectives

General Objective: Contribute to reducing poverty and social exclusion among the rural population of Peaña communities in the municipality of Ocurí through the full exercise of women’s rights, food security with a gender approach, and environmental sustainability.

Specific Objective: Promote food sovereignty and sustainable local economic development with gender equity and environmental governance in 10 Quechua rural communities in the municipality of Ocurí.

Activities:

  • Facilitate sustainable family practices in agricultural, horticultural, and fruit production.
  • Implement solar greenhouses for organic vegetable production.
  • Construct water reservoirs and install irrigation systems to reduce women’s labor burden.
  • Renovate and equip productive association centers for bakeries and beekeeping to meet ACE standards.
  • Develop practical business simulators focusing on production costs, products, pricing, and markets.
  • Participate in trade fairs and business round tables.
  • Conduct workshops on masculinities and care economy for men who are spouses or partners of associated women.
  • Create spaces for training and exchange, including a dialogue with women from social organizations (Bartolina Sisa and others) about women’s roles in local economic development.
  • Organize a municipal summit to analyze comprehensive local development and formulate proposals on food security, gender, and environmental issues in collaboration with public and private institutions in the municipality.
