Strengthening the humanitarian response capacity for people in transit at La 72, Shelter for Migrants.

PIES DESCALZOS S.L.

Background Information

The needs identification meeting for this project was held in mid-February 2024.

Due to the increased migration flow, it became apparent that there was a lack of space in the chapel (the area where people stay overnight), forcing them to accommodate families in covered areas using the court, which is not in optimal condition due to wear and tear, leading to leaks during the rainy season. Additionally, in discussions with people in transit, they emphasized the need for a dignified place to rest, non-perishable food, and easily accessible medical supplies to continue their journey.

Therefore, the following priority aspects were determined for the benefit of people in mobility (transit):

– The need for adequate space to accommodate them in the shelter.

– The need for food and sanitary supplies for their journey.”
