Bolivia

Background information

The Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Ministry of Education has strived to confront the problem of school gender violence at the national level.  This project seeks to render more effective the regulations for preventing violence,  assisting victims and protecting  women from violence, especially in the school environment. The first phase of this program focused on student training in the final secondary school years. Local women requested that the second phase of this project be focused on primary and secondary school levels and involve working with the school management staff and teachers by including the prevention of school and gender violence in the syllabus.

Goals

Overall Goal: Contribute to reducing violence and social exclusion towards women, girls, boys and adolescents by building peaceful, inclusive and sustainable societies in the Pocoata and Colquechaca municipalities.

Specific Goal: Safeguard the right to a life free of violence for women, girls, boys, adolescents, and UE students from the Pocoata and Colquechaca municipalities in collaboration with local public and private players. Exert an influence on public prevention policies with a focus on gender violence and the building of equal, peaceful and sustainable societies.

Activities:

  • Providing information in a systematic manner on the efforts of the Pocoata and Colquechaca municipalities to stem the violence against women and school violence.

  • Developing workshops for educational authorities, teachers and administrators regarding 1) The prevention of violence, guaranteeing gender equality in schools and designing  the appropriate procedures for achieving these goals 2) Sexual and reproductive health and 3) Alcoholism and drug addiction.

  • Organizing information sessions with students on how to recognize and avoid violence and put into practice internal regulations for creating a healthy school atmosphere.

  • Choosing and developing training workshops for fathers / mothers who work to prevent  all forms of violence against women.

  • Holding demonstrations against all forms of violence, with the participation of peasant and indigenous social organizations and the UE.
