Justification

The proposal is presented as a continuation of the project “Strengthening security and nutrition with food sovereignty for peasant families, with a community and gender-integrated approach, and an environmental focus in rural communities in the municipality of Ckochas, to overcome poverty, exclusion, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” funded by the City Council of Donostia in 2021. It is justified by the relevance and appropriateness of the issue in the local context, taking into account the following areas: Environmental-productive-nutritional (Security-Food sovereignty) and Social participatory and gender.

Objectives

General Objective: To contribute to the reduction of poverty and social exclusion among the rural population of the municipality of Ckochas, by strengthening agroecological production, food security, productive initiatives, and the full exercise of women’s rights, for resilient sustainable development.

Specific Objective: To ensure the food security of peasant families in the municipality of Ckochas through a community-based approach, equity and gender equality, rights, environmental sustainability, and social resilience.

Activities:

  • Ecological vegetable production driven by women. Installation of a technified irrigation system, using drip, spray, or flood methods in vegetable production plots and delivery of water tanks.
  • Raising laying hens and workshops for their management. Strengthening fish farming with the construction of ponds, fish stocking, and breeding.
  • Implementation of the beekeeping initiative at the community level.
  • Reinforcement of the preparation and application of nutritional menus based on fish meat supplemented with vegetables and eggs.
  • Development of workshops on new masculinities for male producers.
  • Training workshops for women from the Bartolina Sisa organization in Leadership and Rights, Right to Food, Right to a Life Free of Violence, proposal development with a gender focus, surveillance, and social control to promote their civic participation.
  • Promotion of women’s mobilizations. Creation and broadcasting of radio jingles on the rights of women and violence-free childhood, agroecology, food security, and the environment, broadcasted by the ACLO radio station.
